About
Rafael Vega just got married and moved to the Bay Area to live with his beloved wife.
He left his job in Texas as a copywriter for Sanders\Wingo Advertising, Inc. so that she could continue hers as a development economist for The Asia Foundation, San Francisco.
Now she’s off on some important escapade (or so he imagines) that’s whisking her through India, Nepal, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines while he is at home … growing a beard.
Ladies and gentlemen, for our unemployed hero, this simply will not do. The man needs a job, and he’s hoping this blog will help him get one.

Are you really growing a beard?
The site is looking good so far. It will be nice to see it fill out as you continue to add ideas and images.
What are your specific goals for this site? What are you wanting prospective employers to get out of this?
You’ve shown some good images that were the product of a group effort. You don’t have that group anymore, so have you considered creating some concept pieces? nonsolicited pieces that is.

I killed the beard yesterday although I missed a spot, which bothered me greatly on-and-off for about ten hours.
I’m glad you’re liking the site. It’s here primarily so that employers have something more to look at than just a resume. Making it a blog may not seem ideal but it’s a good way to express some of the thinking and background behind the pieces, something I think is essential when an employer is looking at you as a possible team member and office mate. I have done my best to stay candid and honest.
Most everything in advertising is a team effort. Thankfully, I’ve made a healthy network of friends to collaborate with on freelance projects.
I’m not really big on concept pieces because 1) my Photoshop and InDesign skills are sub-par and 2) they don’t tackle real problems/objectives, which is the goal of advertising … it would be kind of like designing a house without any vision for the land it would be built on or any idea of which of its walls would be facing in which directions (which walls/windows will get the most sunlight … things of that nature). I hope that doesn’t sound snobby … I just like being purposeful a lot more than not.
